Bubba Watson Wins Third Event in 10 Months
Bubba Watson used to be an answer to a trivia question - "Who is the long-hitting left-hander on the PGA Tour who carries a pink-shafted driver?" Honestly, that was about it. He had never won. He was just one of those three golfers from Baghdad, Florida that were now on the PGA Tour, but not really a part of the core clan.
But now look at him. Three wins in 10 months, and at an event that he made YouTube fame in 2008 when he yelled at Steve Elkington over walking while he was trying to hit. That was then, this is wow.
Watson's birdie-birdie finish during the playoff against Webb Simpson is something we should remember, along with that fact that earlier this season he made a lengthy birdie putt on the 72nd hole at Torrey Pines to beat Phil Mickelson.
How big is three wins on the PGA Tour? It's more than Rory McIlroy and Lee Westwood. It's as many as Nick Watney, Dustin Johnson, Anthony Kim, and Luke Donald. That's serious company if you think about it, and to think he's done it in 10 months is even more remarkable.
I wrote all about him being the best American in the game over at Yahoo!, but I figured it was worth mentioning here as well. Watch out for Bubba. He's really figured out this winning thing.
