Fred Couples Says Tiger Woods a Lock for Presidents Cup, Still Thinks It's 2008
Man oh man, what is Fred Couples thinking?
According to Golf Channel's Todd Lewis, Couples said, "Freddie said if Tiger did not make his US team on merit and is healthy he will without hesitation pick him for Presidents Cup," a notion that seems extremely shortsighted and a little premature to be making in early June.
Couples, who has always been a huge fan of Tiger, might think that he'd make a great addition to the Presidents Cup, but can you really make this announcement now, when Woods hasn't played good golf since the 8th hole at the Masters?
Trust me, if Tiger is 100 percent healthy, and started playing some decent golf, i'd completely understand this decision, but I still don't think it's a slam dunk. Tiger finished 3-1-0 at the 2010 Ryder Cup, but you'd have to be crazy to think he's playing anywhere near that right now, and even he said he might miss the U.S. Open.
So maybe Couples needs to relax on this for now. Not only does it seem premature, but it gives little hope to guys that are sitting outside the automatic number right now.
